Flora of the Valley of Flowers National Park

It is an alpine valley, and has been formed the retreating glaciers whose periodic advances and retreat pulverised hard rocks, resulting in smooth conical shaped valley which was later colonized by numerous plants adopting themselves to the harsh climatic conditions prevailing there. The bloom starts immediately after the melting of snow but the peak blooming period is from mid July to mid August. Almost 300 species of wild flowers bloom here in natural way. The valley remains in bloom for three months while the floral composition keeps on changing every few days. By the September the hue starts changing and autumn bids farewell to flowers and the entire vegetation remains dormant for about next five months when the valley is snowbound.
During September and October the valley is in a crystal clean atmosphere, the mountain ranges shining like polished steel in the sunlight, rain washed rocks with gurgling streams and sun kissed meadows about to be covered soon with a spotless white sheet of snow.
